Future economic prosperity for Timmins, Cochrane and Kapuskasing is closer to being realized thanks to recent funding announced by Human Resource Development.
The $248,647 funding will enable the city to continue to develop and implement ideas identified in its Building Our Future strategic plan, as well as to help promote ecotourism in Timmins, Cochrane and Kapuskasing. The money will be used to fund five jobs created in Timmins, one in Kapuskasing, one in Cochrane, and one supervisor to carry out the project’s activities. The projects include four ecotourism co-ordinators - two in Timmins, one in Kapuskasing and one in Cochrane - a youth centre co-ordinator, a RecreACTION co-ordinator and a tourism attractions marketing and promotion co-ordinator.
“This partnership is great news for the future of the City of Timmins,” says Timmins mayor Jamie Lim. “The contribution by the government of Canada will help us bring in the staff we need to focus on specific recommendations that emerged in the city’s strategic plan. “We now have a number of qualified individuals to provide assistance to five volunteer-based committees that have been working for the past three years to implement these ideas,” she adds. “As a municipality, the City of Timmins is pleased to provide our support for these strategic planning initiatives and we encourage other groups to also get involved and make a difference. Not only is this a welcome idea to our community, but to include Cochrane and Kapuskasing truly does make this a superior project.”
