The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) has tapped a provincial geoscientist to grow the city's mining supply sector.
John Mason was named the CEDC's first project manager of mining services.
He brings 36 years of knowledge in the exploration and mining sector...Coming over from the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry's Thunder Bay office,
Mason is a professional geoscientist with an bachelor of science in geology degree from Lakehead University. He started in his new job June 13.
In a June 10 statement, CEO Steve Demmings said Mason's expertise “dramatically contributes to the bench strength of the CEDC” in fulfilling the investment potential and job creation for the region.
The CEDC believes Thunder Bay is poised to capitalize on the robust exploration and mining sector in northwestern Ontario with more than $475 million in exploration expenditures anticipated to be spent this year in the region.
“The CEDC has been very proactive in growing business and economic development in Thunder Bay,” said Mason. “The mining portfolio addition is a natural step in that continuing vision.”
