Thirty per cent of exploration firms expected to go belly up

Four out of five miners believe that a minimum of 30 per cent of exploration companies will be put out of business by the economic meltdown, according to the Fraser Institute's annual survey of mining companies.

Four out of five miners believe that a minimum of 30 per cent of exploration companies will be put out of business by the economic meltdown, according to the Fraser Institute's annual survey of mining companies.

Two out of every five respondents believe that number could be as high as 50 per cent.
The survey involved 658 participants consisting of exploration, development, and other mining-related companies around the world.

The same survey found Ontario is widely viewed as the 10th-best jurisdiction in the world for mining.
These findings placed Ontario behind Saskatchewan, which came in eight, and Quebec, which ranked the highest.

Conversely, Ontario also ranked in the bottom 20 regarding uncertainty caused by unresolved native and Aboriginal land claims.
