The premiere event of the McGuinty government's Growth Plan for Northern Ontario is taking place in Thunder Bay, Feb. 2-3.
Three hundred leaders representing communities, First Nations, business, industry, health, education, research and government will convene at the Valhalla Inn to discuss, what is described by the Ministry of Northern Development as, a "long-range economic blueprint" for the region.
The event, called the Think North Summit, is the culmination of 10 technical tables, covering many socio-economic issues, which were held in cities across the North this past fall and winter.
The event is co-hosted by Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle and Energy and Infrastructure Minister George Smitherman.
Gravelle has promised the Growth Plan will be legislated into action under the province's Places to Grow Act.
The summit includes sessions from international speakers from the U.S., Finland, and Australia, followed by a 'Northern Leaders Roundtable,' and a facilitated panel discussion.
The event will be webcast and e-mailed questions can be sent to www.northerngrowthplan@ontario.ca.
