Swearing in ceremony for new Algoma University president

The ceremony starts on campus with a a formal investiture ceremony at Shingwauk Chapel and continues with a community celebration at the Robert Bondar Park Tent Pavilion on the city's waterfront.

Myers succeeds Celia Ross, who retired earlier this year after serving as president since 1998.

Myers then heads north to Wawa for a Sept 21 open house at the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre.

The school recently opened a new downtown residence and Fine Arts Centre at the former Windsor Park Hotel.

Algoma also received $1.7 million from the Ontario government toward its new convergence centre to house academic researchers, businesses and other partners. Slated to be completed in 2011, the centre will create 69 jobs and expand the biology program as well as expand research space and the business incubation facilities.
