Robert Lipic, president and CEO of the Sudbury-based Mining Technologies International Inc. (MTI) has been nominated for the 2008 Premier's Award in technology.
Lipic graduated from Northern College's Haileybury School of Mines' mining engineering technician program in 1965 and mining engineering technology in 1967 before launching himself into the industry through exploration and geology.
He eventually came to helm MTI, whose revenues have grown from less than $10 million in the 1980s to more than $100 million annually.
Winners of the prestigious Premier's Award receive a bronze medal and direct a $5,000 bursary to the college of their choice.
Lipic was also recognized for his efforts as a recipient of the Northern Ontario Business Award for Entrepreneur of the Year in 2006.
