Canada's only seamless steel pipe producer hosted its grand opening last month.
The newly named AlgomaTubes is part of Tenaris, formerly the DST Group, an alliance of seamless-tube producers including Damine of Italy; Tamsa of Mexico; Tavsa of Venezuela; NKK Tubes of Japan and Argentine pipe producer Siderca S.A.
The new global name reflects the evolution of DST from an alliance of pipe manufacturers to an integrated supplier of products and services.
Tenaris sales currently make up about 34 per cent of worldwide seamless pipe for oil and gas drilling.
Tubular production in Sault Ste. Marie resumed last fall after Algoma Steel Inc. leased its idle tube mill facility.
AlgomaTubes primarily services the Canadian seamless tubular needs; the company says it will expand its product range and offer customers tubular technology for the exploration of oil and gas in the most critical, prolific and harshest oil and gas regions in Canada.
