Smoking ban favoured by local chamber members (2/02)

The Dryden Chamber of Commerce is surveying its membership to determine how they feel about smoking in public places.

The Dryden Chamber of Commerce is surveying its membership to determine how they feel about smoking in public places. The chamber's survey follows a recent resolution adopted by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce that calls for province-wide legislation banning smoking in public and work spaces.

Dryden city council has been under pressure to adopt a non-smoking bylaw by the area's medical officer of health, Dr. Peter Sarsfield. He has waged an aggressive campaign in recent months to ban smoking in all enclosed public places and workplaces.

With 10 per cent of the survey results returned so far, it appears the chamber's membership is favouring the Ontario chamber's resolution four to one.
