The population of the Rainy River District is expected to see minimal growth over the next 27 years, according to Ministry of Finance projections. By 2028, the population is expected to grow only three per cent, compared to a population growth of 33.4 per cent across the rest of the province.
The projections are based on calculations from the comparison of results of the 1996 and 2001 census years.
The Thunder Bay District will grow 0.7 per cent, while the Kenora District is expected to grow 17.3 per cent, based on the study. Overall, northwestern Ontario is projected to account for 1.7 per cent of Ontario's population growth.
