Northern College is seeing enrolment increases not experienced in 17 years, growing 38 per cent across the school, due in part to strong interest from Ontario's Second Career program.
The government program, which funds retraining for laid-off workers, accounts for 54 per cent of the school's enrolment growth, giving Northern College the highest number of such students in Northern Ontario.
First-year enrolment is up 46 per cent across all campuses. Business and office administration programs have grown by 50 per cent at the Porcupine campus, where trades and engineering technology enrolment has grown by 40 per cent. Enrolment has also doubled for the Kirkland Lake campus' office administration and second-year business accounting programs.
The school also saw a strong move in its distance learning, where enrolment is up 39 per cent.
