Federal Industry Minister Tony Clement is delivering more than $1.1 million to Sault Ste. Marie for economic development, information, innovation and youth initiatives.
The biggest winner is the City of Sault Ste. Marie with a $528,000 FedNor cheque to buy a high-tech audio and video system for the city's Essar Centre arena. The upgrades are to help the city attract major conventions, trade shows, sporting and tourist events.
The Sault Ste. Marie and District Group Health Association is getting $325,395 to install a Picture Archiving Communications System for healthcare diagnostics.
SITTM Technologies Inc., a 10-person biodiesel company, is receiving $105,000 to develop their automated refinery to produce 1,000 litres of biodiesel fuel.
The remainder of the money is earmarked toward hiring FedNor Youth Interns to work at the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation, Batchewana First Nation of Ojibways, Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre and the Upper Lakes Environmental Research Network.
