A Sault College graduate is the recipient of one of the country's highest academic award, bestowed March 20 at the college's annual Scholarship, Bursaries and Awards (SBA) event.
Sven Svantesson, a mechanical engineering technology graduate, received the Governor General's Academic Medal Award, which goes to the student graduating from the previous year's three-year program with the highest academic standing.
Svantesson is the school's first mechanical engineering technology student to receive the award.
The award was established in 1873 by Lord Dufferin, Canada's third governor general after confederation, to encourage academic excellence across the nation, and has become one of the most prestigious awards Canadian students can receive.
A total of 332 students were recognized at the awards event.
