Sault construction permits decline in 2008

Construction values recorded this year by the City of Sault Ste. Marie have dropped from $224 million during 2007 to $93.8 million during the same month this year. But the value of city issued building permits rose in October from $2.


Construction values recorded this year by the City of Sault Ste. Marie have dropped from $224 million during 2007 to $93.8 million during the same month this year.

But the value of city issued building permits rose in October from $2.7 million in October of 2007 to $7.8 million this past month.

Increases this year was shown in residential construction with numbers jumping from $29.2 million in October last year to $38.4 million this fall.

However commercial, industrial and institution construction values have decreased from $194.8 million in October 2007 to $55.4 million in October 2008.

Four permits were issued for new homes in October at a cost of $684,751. One permit was issued for new commercial construction and none for any industrial or institutional projects.
