The federal government has announced it will invest $90,000 into a feasibility study for Eabametoong First Nation and the possibility of linking the community to either Nakina or Pickle Lake.

The federal government has announced it will invest $90,000 into a feasibility study for Eabametoong First Nation and the possibility of linking the community to either Nakina or Pickle Lake.

The study will look at what impact a permanent road will have on forestry, mining and transportation in the region, as well as evaluate two corridors: one south to Nakina and one west to Pickle Lake.

The federal funding will also pay for consultant fees and the services of a project co-ordinator. Area MPs are applauding the financial commitment, saying a road linking Eabametoong to either Nakina or Pickle Lake will create long-term economic expansion and new business opportunities for the region.
