Housing starts are up 11 per cent with 95-single family homes completed or under construction.

In a Nov. 10 release, North Bay Mayor Vic Fedeli said the ongoing construction surge provides "countless" jobs for local families. He expects another robust year in 2009 with more projects on tap including a shared library and student centre at Canadore College and Nipissing University.

Eight units are underway in the 32-unit Perut Place subdivision. The Sugar Bush subdivision near Jack Garland Airport is ready to build 19 units, along with 11 more units in the Frances Street subdivision.

"There is a tremendous amount of infilling going on," said Councillor Mike Anthony, "as builders of all sizes build single homes throughout the city."

Other residential subdivisions are infilling space within the city including 17 homes being built on Third Avenue. It's on a former CN rail right-of-way acquired by the municipality and sold to developers under the condition that starter homes be built.
