An abandoned stretch of railway line between Capreol and North Bay is being converted into a multi-use recreational trail. The Canadian National Railway Co. is transferring 560 kilometres of line to the Trans Canada Trail Foundation. A Sudbury non-profit community group, Rainbow Routes, has been set up to promote the trail in the area and will work with the foundation to develop the former rail line into a walking and hiking trail. The right-of-way runs east from Capreol, around scenic Bowland's Bay at Skead and east again to Field and North Bay.
