Province helps Hearst to promote bioenergy

Efforts to create international partnerships to boost biomass at the heart of Hearst have seen a financial hand up from the provincial government.

Efforts to create international partnerships to boost biomass at the heart of Hearst have seen a financial hand up from the provincial government.

The sum of $6,225 was provided through Northern Communities Investment Readiness program to support a tour of delegates representing several Finnish companies seeking to take a closer look at forestry industry opportunities in the North.

Delegates visited local forestry operations, a bioenergy willow plantation as well as potential bioenergy sites.

Officials hope these efforts, through the Hearst Economic Development Corporation and the Nord Aski Regional Economic Development Corporation, may lead to potential bioenergy initiatives in the area.
