Shoulders will be paved on Highway 11 south of North Bay, from South River to Sunridge, once a new 17-k) four-lane bypass is completed in mid-September. It's part of a pilot project which has also installed paved highway shoulders on Manitoulin Island to accommodate cycling tourists. The project is part of a 2010 highway contract ($32.9 million) awarded to Aecon Construction.

In northwestern Ontario, 28 kilometres of Highway 17 and 36 kilometres of Highway 72 will be resurfaced. Miller Northwest received the contract. Improvements will also be made to the Sioux Lookout Truck Bypass.

Near Hearst, the Kendall Creek Bridge near Hearst is being replaced. Miller Paving received the contract and will complete the project in spring 2013.

At Marathon, the Black River Bridge on Highway 17 near Marathon will be replaced by Belanger Construction of Sudbury, which was awarded the contract. The project is scheduled for completion by the fall of 2012.
