Thunder Bay's Premier Gold Mines has appointed Tim Twomey as its vice-president of exploration.
He has worked at Premier since 2008 as exploration manager, overseeing the junior miner's extensive exploration programs.
Twomey is a professional geologist with over 25 years of exploration, production and management experience.
In a Dec. 14 release, the company said he has developed a proven track record that includes playing a key role in Goldcorp's High-Grade Zone discovery, development and production at Red Lake. The zone is considered one of the most important gold discoveries made in the last 20 years and is regarded as the highest grade gold mine in the world.
Prior to his tenure at Premier, Tim was a senior exploration geologist with Goldcorp's Regional Exploration Team in the Red Lake area. He has also explored for base and precious metals in mines and bush camps of Northern Ontario and Saskatchewan, including the Thunder Bay and Kirkland Lake regions.
Ewan Downie, Premier's president and CEO, said "Tim epitomizes the spirit of enthusiasm and innovation in exploration. He has brought to Premier a talent for developing exploration concepts and the tenacity required to convert them into mineral resources."
Premier's holdings include projects and deposits in Red Lake, on the main Musselwhite Gold Mine trend, and a 70 per cent interest in the Hardrock Project near Geraldton in northwestern Ontario.
