An intensifying war of words between two of the North's premier politicians reached new heights this week, following an announcement by federal Industry Minister Tony Clement that Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci made no contact with Louise Paquette, FedNor's director general, in 2008.
Citing an Access to Information request released Feb. 20, 2009, Clement's press release says this lack of contact contradicts Bartolucci's claim he has been "supporting the needs of his constituents by working with FedNor."
In response, Bartolucci asserted the statement was partisan, unethical, and a direct reaction to pressure from his office to fund Sudbury's Centre of Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI).
Bartolucci, who in the past has referred to Clement as the "minister of FedNot," said he never claimed to work directly with FedNor, but instead helped community partners with funding applications.
