A pair of awards have highlighted the long-time efforts of two employees with the Ontario Geological Survey (OGS).
In recognition of his extensive work with Aboriginal people, OGS First Nations Minerals Information Officer Peter Moses has been given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Northwestern Ontario Prospectors Association. Based in Thunder Bay, Moses has worked to deliver community-based prospector courses, information and education sessions, following his former career as a prospector.
Also being hailed for his work is Sudbury-based Ed Debicki, senior manager of the OGS Geoscience Laboratories. Debicki recently received the 2009 J. Willis Ambrose Medal from the Geological Association of Canada for his 30 years of service to the Canadian earth science community.
The award recognizes his leadership and support of national and international organizations, regional and local groups, conferences and special events. He has delivered services to a broad range of audiences, including geoscience professionals, the mineral exploration community, and the general public.
The OGS works with universities and a variety of federal and provincial governmental agencies to provide geological data, information, advice and services to support a broad range of activities. These include mineral exploration and mining, and land-use planning.
