The Ontario Geological Survey is launching an airborne geophysical survey to probe the mineral prospects in the area of the town of Mine Centre in northwestern Ontario.

The geoscience program and the high-quality data produced by the survey is expected to attract investment by identifying new mineral targets for exploration companies. The survey will also provide new data for land-use planning purposes.

Ontario Prospectors Association (OPA)executive director Garry Clark said the survey will compliment the nearby Atikokan Mineral Development Initiative which is directed by his group. The OPA is in the process of organizing a large airborne survey around Atikokan for 11,000 line kilometres.

Clark said there is historic mineralization in the Mine Centre area, located between Atikokan and Fort Frances, including the former Port Arthur copper mine which operated at the turn of the last century.
