The Northern Centre for Advanced Technology Inc. (NORCAT) is plugging into ORION, the global grid of advanced research networks, Ontario’s ultra high-speed fibre optic network dedicated exclusively to support research and education in the province.
ORION is providing world-class research connectivity to NORCAT's new Innovation and Commercialization Centre, joining some 80 Ontario research and education institutions linked to ORION.
“We are very excited about joining the ORION network, and plan to take advantage of its advanced network capabilities to expand our collaboration with innovation partners here at home and abroad,” says NORCAT CEO, Darryl Lake.
NORCAT is a recognized leader in technology innovation, contributing to critical development with such partners as NASA and the Canadian Space Agency. It also provides a new state-of-the-art home with technologically developed and industrial services for small businesses and precommercial entrepreneurs.
“NORCAT is a critical economic development and training resource for the entire north,” says Maxim Jean-Louis, the President and CEO of Contact North/Contact Nord, and chair of ORANO, the non-forprofit organization that owns and operates the ORION network.
“It is vital that our region is able to access next-generation technologies and resources to ensure that we can support leading institutions like NORCAT and expand the north’s innovation capacity.”
