The list of disappeared developers who have deserted Sault Ste. Marie's waterfront site grew by one this week.
CCi Development Group of Toronto backed out of a development proposal with the City of Sault Ste. Marie to build a tourism and mixed use attraction on the waterfront site near the city's downtown.
The city's engineering and planning chief, Jerry Dolcetti notified city council this week that CCI wants out, citing current economic conditions and tight money markets.
Councillors want the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation to find another developer and the city wants to ensure $15 million in Northern Ontario Heritage Fund money committed to the city 10 years ago for a tourism destinatin attraction, remains in place.
After a bad breakup with a previous developer, Phil Garforth last winter, the city quickly decided on CCI earlier in the summer. The development firm was scheduled to bring their concept to city council sometime in December.
