The Nishnawbe Aski Development Fund celebrated their entrepreneurial and community success stories at its 18th annual business awards event in Timmins, Oct. 22.
Brunswick House First Nation's William Lacroix of 101 Gas Station and Trading Post, and Sachigo Lake First Nation's Edna Beardy of Henry's Place were selected Business Man and Woman of the year.
The Top Executive award winner is Margarat Kenequanash, executive director for the Shibogama First Nation Council in Sioux Lookout.
Mattagami First Nation's Chris McKay of W. C. McKay Consulting Services is the Youth Entrepreneur winner.
Pic River Development Corp. were recognized as Development Corporation of the Year for its work in the forestry sector and improving the quality of life with its fibre optic projects in the community.
McLeod Wood Associates Inc. of Fergus, Ont. received the Partnership Award for its community infrastructure work while Cree Aski Services took the Building Communities Award back to Moose Factory First Nation.
Louise Thomas, owner of the Ahnisnabee Art Gallery in Thunder Bay, was given the NeeChee Achievement Award.
