Nip U announces new president

Lesley Lovett-Doust is the new president and vice-chancellor of Nipissing University in North Bay. A post-secondary educator for 30 years, she succeeds Dennis Mock on July 1.

A post-secondary educator for 30 years, she succeeds Dennis Mock on July 1.

Lovett-Doust will make the transition from her current job as provost and vice-president of academic affairs at Michigan Technological University.

She becomes Nipissing's fifth president.

With a solid background in environmental studies and science, she has served in academic dean roles at Lakehead University, University of Windsor, University of Edinburgh (Scotland) and University of Wales.

Gerry Foster, chairman of Nipissing's board of governors and chair of the search committee, expressed confidence in Lovett-Doust's abilities to "succeed at the highest level."

Foster praised her commitment to student satisfaction and teaching as well as her involvement in Francophone, First Generation and Aboriginal education.
