Sault College has raked in $551,812 from Queen's Park to train more apprentices.
Sault Ste. Marie MPP David Orazietti made the announcement on the campus, March 17.
The money will be rolled out over the next three years for the college to train multiple motive power trade apprentices. It comes from the province's Apprenticeship Enhancement Fund and will go toward increasing lab capacity, efficiency in the motive power trades and improve the quality of training.
In a statement, Orazietti said the investment will allow the college to expand its apprenticeship programming with modern training resources. "Our government recognizes that during this period of economic uncertainty it is important for our workers to have the skills they need to take advantage of every local opportunity."
Colin Kirkwood, Sault College's skilled trades dean, said the money will allow them to buy hybrid vehicles and other equipment that will allow the college to expand their training.
