The Missanabie Cree First Nation is establishing a band-owned company that will produce modular homes for sale to other First Nations.

The First Nation, located in the Sault Ste. Marie area, has received $31,500 from FedNor for use towards legal and consulting fees required to establish the home-building company.

“With FedNor support, we hope to establish a manufacturing company that will create up to 10 jobs initially and another 10 to 15 as we expand into other markets,” Chief Kim Rainville said in a news release.

The funding comes from the Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that strengthen community economic development, enhance business growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
