The city's newest mining research cluster located on the fourth floor of the Willet Green Miller Centre at Laurentian University has been officially opened following a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The fourth floor is now home to four mining research centres: the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI), the Canadian Mining Industry Research Organization (CAMIRO), the Mines and Aggregates Safety and Health Association (MASHA) and the Mining Innovation, Rehabilitation and Applied Research Corporation (MIRARCO).

The move will allow the four organizations to more freely communicate and share information.

The event also spotlighted many of the research projects currently underway, including such topics as mine schedule optimization, underground mining safety, data visualization, and tailings rehabilitation.
