A new medical drama loosely inspired by the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) will be filmed in Sudbury in 2012.

Commissioned by TVO, Hard Rock Medical will be a half-hour drama that follows a group of medical students attending the four-year NOSM program. The Canadian-Australian production will air on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN).

The production, which received $1 million in funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp., is expected to boost the film industry and local economy through production jobs and support services.

“TVO is really proud of the role we play in supporting Ontario's independent producers and we're delighted to be collaborating with the amazing teams behind Hard Rock Medical Productions, as well as APTN, to open a unique window onto the people, places and culture of Ontario's North,” said Lisa de Wilde, TVO's CEO, in a news release. “We're all very appreciative of the investment the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. is making to bring this exciting project to life.”v
