Med school dean given Order of Australia

Dr. Roger Strasser, dean of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM), has been appointed a member of the Order of Australia.

The investiture took place during a ceremony at NOSM's east campus in Sudbury on Dec. 20 with Acting High Commissioner and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Australia High Commission in Ottawa, Mr. Bruce Soar.

Dr. Strasser was recognized for his achievements and service to medicine, through improving the health care of people living in rural and remote communities in developed and developing nations as an educator, researcher, and practitioner.

It was noted during the ceremony that this type of investiture rarely occurs outside of Australia and that it was most certainly a first time occurrence in Northern Ontario.
