The Ontario Mining Association (OMA) aims to make compensation for industrial related diseases fairer and more equitable.
The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) received the OMA submission on occupational disease compensation claims in the adjudication process, scientific evidence in disease scheduling and policy development..
The WSIB policy must provide clear, fair and consistent decision making in the face of complex medical, scientific and legal questions as a result of claims.
A spokesman from the OMA says "Board policies must establish a process to ensure that benefits are granted only where the best available science establishes that occupational exposure was the primary, or most important, contributing factor to the development of disease."
