Longlac plant certification achieved

Longlac's plywood and waferboard plant has joined the ranks of other forestry companies recognized for environmentally friendly manufacturing practices.

Longlac's plywood and waferboard plant has joined the ranks of other forestry companies recognized for environmentally friendly manufacturing practices.

Longlac Wood Industries has been certified by the International Standards Organization for having an environmental management plan for its woodlands division.

The certification means the waferboard and plywood operation has a plan to minimize pollution and follow all relevant laws when it is logging on 7,000 hectares of forest.

The certification, which is reviewed every year, requires companies to constantly explore ways of improving forestry practices that protect the environment.

Longlac Wood Industries annually produces 161 million square feet of waferboard and 124 million square feet of hardwood plywood. The company employs 450 people at its two mills.
