Following 18 years in the provincial legislature, Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson has officially thrown his hat into the ring as a candidate to become the new leader of the provincial NDP party.
Next March, the party will decide on a replacement for Howard Hampton, who's hung up the mantle after 13 years as leader of the provincial party.
Bisson had dropped barely veiled hints in recent months indicating his intention to enter the race, and recently launched his campaign simultaneously in Sudbury and Toronto.
Bisson is the second NDP member to put forward his name for the leadership position, with the first being Toronto's Michael Prue.
Two other southern Ontario members, Peter Tabuns and Andrea Horwath, are widely expected to join the race.
