A three-year collective agreement reached between Xstrata Nickel and the Sudbury operations' office, clerical and technical employees  represented by United Steelworkers Local 2020 has been ratified by the union.

The deal, which affects roughly 215 employees, contains improvements to wages and benefits, as well as a signing bonus and a retirement incentive.

It also contains a transition agreement relating to the eventual start-up production at its Fraser  copper operations, which may result in the recall of 16 laid-off workers.
"As far as the monetary parts of the agreement, we are content with what we achieved," said Gerry Loranger, USW area coordinator, in a release.

Members voted 80 per cent in favour of accepting the memorandum of settlement recommended by the union's bargaining committee.
