Non-commercial production has begun at Liberty Mines' McWatters nickel mine near Timmins, marking a milestone for the company and returning it to producer status after halting production at its Redstone Mine in October 2008.
Mining has begun at the 85-metre level, with other work at the 155-metre level due to begin at 500 tonnes per day in late December 2009 once access to the mineralization and the ventilation raise are complete.
Commercial production will be reached Jan. 1, 2010, and will increase to 2,000 tonnes per day by March or April 2010. Ore will be fed to the Liberty's Redstone nickel concentrator.
