Just a few short months after the departure of its president, Laurentian University is preparing to lose another key staff member following the announcement that Liette Vasseur, associate vice-president of research, is moving on.

Effective Jan. 1, 2009, Vasseur will serve as vice-president of research at Brock University.

"Under Liette Vasseur's leadership, Laurentian University's research capacity grew significantly, increasing our university's reputation and engagement in the community and the world," said Robert Bourgeois, Laurentian's acting president, in a release.

Vasseur joined Laurentian in September 2004, and has served in her current role as well as professor in the department of biology. She is widely recognized expert in the fields of sustainable development, climate change, conservation ecology as well as community-based ecosystem management.

Vasseur will officially leave Laurentian in early December, at which point the university will appoint an interim associate vice-president, research, until a permanent replacement can be found.
