Thanks to recent approval from the Ontario Council of Graduate Studies, Laurentian University has announced it will soon offer a new master's program in computational science.

This multidisciplinary field uses the theory and application of computer science and mathematics to solve real-world problems across the fields of business, industry, medicine and science.

The new graduate program will be offered in September 2009 as part of the department of mathematics and computer science.

Officials expect the new master's program will encourage research between various departments at the university, as well as research centres such as MIRARCO and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
