Lakehead University has picked up two Canada Research Chairs and a combined $200,000 in federal grants.
Dr. Alla Reznik was awarded a $100,000 NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) grant to study the Physics of Molecular Imaging. Dr. Gregory Pyle received $100,000 from NSERC for his studies in environmental biotechnology and ecotoxicology.
Dr. Rui Wang, Lakehead's vice-president of research, says its research chairs have a "tremendous impact on the advancement of global knowledge."
Reznik's research makes use of modern photo-detection technology for early diagnosis of cancer and efficient monitoring of treatment progress of the disease.
Pyle's research focuses on the ways that human activities may interfere with chemical communication signals used by aquatic animals in their environment.
