Kirkland Lake Gold Inc.'s Macassa Mine, located in the prolific Kirkland Lake camp, is due to see a flurry of new mining activity from a recent commitment to bring the South Mine Complex into production.
With a letter of intent from North Bay's J.S. Redpath Limited to handle the new mining area, the South Mine Complex is expected to be mined at an initial rate of 425-tons-per day, seven days a week. Start-up is slated to begin in January 2009.
Once track and infrastructure developments are in place, ore production will rise to 700 tons per day at higher grades by March 2009.
Combined, the two areas will achieve an annual gold production of 100,000 ounces.
