Kenora Web site funded

Kenora's Internet presence was pushed in a new direction by a community planning session recently. Among big announcements coming out of the meeting was $40,000 in funding to set up a Web site unifying the Lake of the Woods Business Incentive Corporation, City of Kenora and Tourism Kenora sites.

While expressions of interest have already been tendered, the character of the combined site is still under debate, as is the makeup of the steering committee that will determine both the role and character of the site and what technology will be used.

The site is only one part of a much larger plan that emerged during the meeting, a spokesperson for the City of Kenora says. This long-term plan is not only for the three primary organizations, but also for businesses, government, non-profit organizations and special interest groups in the Kenora district.

Plans call for the online community to eventually link with other northern communities to form a large and powerful Web presence, promoting tourism, e-business and information.
