Local companies in the Kenora area did not pass the pre-qualification stage in a multimillion-dollar sewer and water project.
Earlier this year, the city hired engineering company UMA as consultants on the $25.5-million project. UMA had called for pre-qualification information via an information sheet, which approximately 12 local companies filled out.
None of the contractors filled out the forms properly; some only filled in their names. The information sheet requested information regarding the contractors' senior personnel, resumes and qualifications of staff, equipment available, past performances, years in business and ability to post bond.
Five out-of-town companies did pass the pre-qualification stage, including two from Winnipeg and others from Thunder Bay and Manitoba. Local contractors will have an opportunity to bid on subcontracting work.
