Sault Ste. Marie's Algoma University is commemorating its first full school year as a stand-alone post-secondary institution.

A door-opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated for Sept. 4 on the front lawn of the Queen Street campus. Six thousands invitations have been mailed to alumni, former faculty and community reps.

Earlier this year, the province delivered Algoma U its separation papers as a satellite campus of Laurentian University in Sudbury.
