Aecon Construction and Materials Ltd. has been awarded a $16.1-million contract to improve part of Highway 11 near Earlton.
About 27 kilometres of hghway will be graded and paved with new culverts and lighting installed north of the intersection with Highway 569. Construction also includes improvements to the intersection of Highway 11 and Development Road to allow expansion of the Harley Township Industrial Park and two new passing lanes south of Earlton. It's part of an earlier $1-million Ontario investment into infrastructure for the industrial park.
Sudbury's Pioneer Construction has already started repaving a section of Highway 11 east of Longlac.
The Ontario government announced Sept. 9 that the company was awarded the $5.9-million contract.
The work involves paving 25 kilometres of highway along with drainage improvements east from the Hoiles Creek Bridge. Completion is expected later this year.
