Architectural firms in Northern Ontario received high marks for their use of wood at the annual Wood WORKS! awards gala in Toronto, Nov. 12.
Among the winners were Lowry Otto Erskine Williams Architects and Georgian Engineering for their commercial wood design for Parry Sound's new Microtel Inn and Suites.
Thunder Bay's Peterson + Habib Consultants were given the Northern Ontario Excellence Award for their design of the Dryden Regional Training and Cultural Centre.
The awards celebrate excellence and innovation in wood buildings and the people who bring pioneering designs in the use of wood.
"The award winners chose wood for its structural strength, lower cost and higher efficiency, the texture and warmth it adds to interiors, and for its sustainability as a renewable and recyclable material," said Wood WORKS! Ontario executive director Marianne Berube.
