Heritage Fund floats and flies money to northern communities

A new and expanded marina is in the cards for the Township of Red Rock in northwestern Ontario. The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund is providing $415,600 to dredge the marina and build new docks to handle boats larger than 40 feet.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund is providing $415,600 to dredge the marina and build new docks to handle boats larger than 40 feet. The project is expected to generate five new jobs.

The municipality will also receive $22,500 from the province's Northern Communities Investment Readiness Initiative for a studies on how to best market the area and to find ways to attract complimentary new businesses to the area.

Heritage Fund is also providing $48,600 to the Manitoulin East Municipal Airport to install a new water line from a well water pumping station to the terminal and building in their industrial park. Currently, potable water is trucked to the airport and stored in a cistern.

The eastern Manitoulin Island airport is located eight kilometres north of Manitowaning on Highway 6.
