The results of on an economic forum hosted at Hearst University on Feb. 28. by the Hearst Economic Development Corporation are being folded into a larger plan to reinvigorate the town.
The EDC is currently compiling and combining the various suggestions and proposals put forth during the forum, which falls under the "Reinventing Hearst Together" community project. These suggestions are also being compared against various projects that have been initiated in the past, as well as any projects that are already underway.
Each project identified during the economic forum will be evaluated according to a series of specific criteria, including whether it is sustainable, as well as the local degree of control over the project.
Organizers will also examine the local capacity to implement projects in terms of financial, physical and human resources.
Once the input has been organized, action groups will be formed to move the identified projects forward. An action group formed around the idea of renewable energy is due to be formed shortly, in consultation with Dr. David DeYoe, senior advisor, bioproducts and biotechnology with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
