Algoma University received $500,000 from FedNor towards a health informatics research institute for Sault Ste. Marie.

Algoma University received $500,000 from FedNor towards a health informatics research institute for Sault Ste. Marie.
The institute will be established to provide governance, management and promotion of health informatics research activities in Northern Ontario.
The city and its Innovation Centre have been recognized internationally for its work in this field. The new institute will focus on the area of Primary and Community Care Informatics and will use local expertise in the applications of geospatial technologies, health system management and "serious games" for health.
The FedNor funding comes on the heels of provincial funding announced earlier this year. The money is earmarked for the two-year salary of a managing director, information resources, facility renovations, travel and visitor funds, and institutional membership fees.
