The Regional Education Alliance for Community Health (REACH) building at Confederation College is now open in Thunder Bay.
The $22.66-million health sciences building is unique for its use of glue-laminated (glulam) timbers, comprised of spruce and lodgepole pine from British Columbia, for aesthetic interest and structural support.
The extensive use of wood in its design has earned the building the designation of a demonstration project by Wood WORKS!, an initiative of the Canadian Wood Council that encourages the use of wood in design and construction.
“Through the collaborative support of our provincial and federal partners, Confederation College has developed a facility that will enhance and promote excellence in health and community services education,” said board of governors chair Marilyn Gouthro in a news release. “This building represents a culmination of ideas and commitment from our employees, our colleagues and our community.”
Students, staff and community members will be able to access a variety of health and community services through the new site.
