Northeastern Ontario's two newest and refurbished tourist attractions, the Shania Twain Centre and the Timmins Gold Mine Tour, received a $500,000-contribution in June from FedNor for construction and expansion. The Shania Twain Centre, a repository of artifacts of the country music superstar, opened Canada Day weekend and is expected to draw 55,000 visitors this year. The revamped Gold Mine Tour includes an improved blasting and drilling display along with new hologram dioramas. A network of drifts and tunnels will be expanded to give visitors a realistic look at underground operations. Both attractions will create 80 new jobs.
